Architectural Photo Walks - San Francisco Bay Area, Summer 2024

When the blogpost about the Mendocino Color Projects workshop went up a few weeks ago, besides mentioning a ZOOM Color Projects workshop later in the summer, I also mentioned we were going to begin a series of half day Architectural Photo Walks in and around San Francisco over the summer. At this point, it looks like the online workshop will be from the middle of August through early September, and the Architectural Photo Walks will begin in about two to three weeks. While both the location and ZOOM Color Projects workshops are concerned with color and concept, the half day Architectural Photo Walks will concentrate more on composition, design, scale, light quality, lens type, and perspective, along with the history of the neighborhoods we shoot in.

As opposed to the Color Projects workshops where people work on an extended unified idea, the Architectural Photo Walks are designed to help people further refine their visual /camera skills at their own chosen pace. You can shoot with a 4x5 field camera, an SLR, or your cell phone. The idea is to simultaneously learn about the urban landscape, and refine your visual skills. The walks are one offs, you can come on the Telegraph Hill walk, miss the Bernal Heights walk, then go one the Marin Headlands one. This is a workshop for people who are interested in urban landscape, architectural landscape, architecture, and architectural detail. Right now, it looks like I will be doing three of these architectural photo walks over the summer. While my preference is to do them during the week, my guess is weekends will work best for most of you.

The weekend dates that work best for me are as follows:

  • July 27th- Bernal Heights

  • August 17- Telegraph Hill

  • September 7- Ocean Beach/Sutro Baths

All walks will be from 3:30 PM until 8:30 PM

Workshop Cost - $150/person, discount for groups of three or more.

50% discount for students.

If you want to do a walk during the week, just let me know.
